Some Questions

#1 Post by Nomad-Man » Fri Jul 01, 2005 8:05 am

Just recently got my laptop. IBM thinkpad and windowsxp is all new to me as im currently running all other machines on 98se still.

I need to make restore disks..
What Cds are good to use for this?
And how many will I need?
Im I suppose to do this before I install any other programs?

I want to get rid of Norton Antivirus and maybe some others
If i run restore, does it allow me to pick and chose the programs that I do and dont want on my machine. And if so should I do this before I make the restore disks?

When I first started my machine I remember a DOS box poping up something about MFGClean, had a bunch of stuff in it. But then didnt see it again. Until last night.. there is a file in (dont hold me to it cause im not sitting in front of it) My docs that says MFGClean. What is this and do I need to keep it?

Thanks for the help

in order, more or less..

5 to 7 CD's, good quality (most any BRAND NAME will do)
make them anytime but the sooner the better as you will then have them in case of a crash..

no, you can not pick and choose..

and mfgclean is part of the initialize routine..
a big command file of a sort that does housecleaning tasks..
you should not ever see it again unless you DO do a recovery of the OS..

MFGCLEAN won't continue

#3 Post by gssq » Thu Oct 20, 2005 7:28 am

Hi

Just used the recovery discs on my T42 and on the first real Windows boot, MFGCLEAN runs and won't end. Screenshot attached.

Anyone has any ideas?

I had that happen, but on mine it was running down on the task bar, I'd try to maximize it but it would not max, I kept right clicking and hitting close after several or more attempts it went away
