New Drive, No OS disk

#1 Post by mgeller142 » Fri Jul 22, 2005 10:23 pm

Help! My HD on my A30 finally died, and I installed a new drive, but then realized that 1. I don't have any OS backup disk and 2. my machine didn't ship with a disk. The machine came with Win 2000 Professional.

Can I get a replacement disk for a bootable OS system disk, or is there a download available anywhere?

Or, do I need to go buy a fresh copy of an OS, and if so, do they come with a bootable disk to run from?

Thanks in advance,
Michael

I don't know if the A30 comes with the service partition installed by default or not. If it does, I've been reading that you can order the Recovery CD's from Lenovo for about $45. Alternatively, you could go out and buy a Windows 2000 or Windows XP install CD. I would check amazon.com and/or e-bay for one of these.

Buying a Windows install CD gives you more flexibility, but may cost you more. The Recovery CD's on the other hand have some extra software that IBM installed, that perhaps might be valuable to you.
