Missing OS

#1 Post by Kyocera » Sun Aug 14, 2005 10:04 am

While fooling around loading an operating system on another hard drive I disable security on the pre desktop area. Now when I try to boot to access ibm I get "no operating system found" After examining the hard drive with Partition Commander there is still a partition on the drive the size of the service partition. I renabled predesktop security but can't boot to that partition. I did make recovery CD's, can I recreate the partition with them? or have I lost it for good? Everythink else works fine. Thanks.

Maybe you should reinstall your RnR, and see if it works.

I did reinstall R&R, it worked but did not recreate the partition. I love learning things the hard way. At any rate I just recovered the partition with Partition commander and got some extra hard drive space, so there was that postitive outcome.

The Recovery CD's will recreate the hidden partition and restore the factory contents to the hard drive. It will be just like when you first got your laptop (if you got it new). Using the Recovery CD's deletes all data on the hard drive. You might find the following thread informative:

Yeah, I bought it new and really like it. I use it for network troubleshooting, connectivity issues etc. Have dropped it twice, once on blacktop and once someon tripped over the ethernet cable, no problems.

Thanks for the advice and the link. This is a great forum.
