Difficulties with Intel Chipset Support Installation

#1 Post by cruzlite » Tue Aug 23, 2005 12:35 pm

I am attempting an XP clean install (From windows disk)...
After installation of OS (and Drivers, i386 folders, and IBMTOOLS)...
I attempt to install Chipset Support...(by running; infinst_autol.exe...
I go through the wizard/shield...click 'finish' and the system reboots...
After startup I get no other prompts, screens, etc...
I can find no evidence that the software has been installed...
Device mgr shows the following in the yellow;

Ethernet cntrlr
Ethernet cntrlr
Multimedia audio cntrlr
PCI Modem
Unknown device (Emb cntrlr)
VGA video cntrlr

(The same condition as before I ran infinst_autol.exe)

What am I missing?

(BIOS VERSION...3.17)
(EMBEDDED CONTROLLER VERSION...3.04)

I belive infinst_autol.exe simply extracts the chipset driver to a directory. Read the instructions carefully its likely that you need to run that exe to extract the files then enter a directory and run the actual installer.

Launch ThinkVantage Software Installer to 'View driver and application version information'. The Intel Chipset support version should be listed there. It is on my T42
DKB

I should have stated ;
I ran the exe file from...
C:/IBMTOOLS/OSFIXES/INTELINF/infinst_autol.exe
(As per/Instructions on IBM site)

Also; I expected to see a config screen after reboot...
(Readme file Instructions read;
"4. Follow the on-screen instructions and use the default settings to
complete the setup, once the operating system has rebooted."

I will have to install ethernet drivers before I can use the software installer...I hesitate to do this, as according to the instructions...
the chipset driver should be installed first.
