Fresh install of XP on A20m with W98 on it.
Hi all. I'm having trouble trying to troubleshoot a problem that I'm having with an a20m. I'm pretty good with computers and I can't believe that I'm at this juncture. My friend asked me to upgrade her OS from Win98 to XP.
On bootup, XP loads its normal start up procedure. When it gets to the section where you either select to install on that particular partition size or you can select the size of partition. Right up until there, it's fine, but, then the whole thing turns off. Just powers right down. I'm completely stumped. I even put a new drive in and i get the same problem. It just shuts down. I put the old drive back in and the machine goes to a system restore mode and then Win98 come back up. No power outages at all. What am I doing wrong here?
I've looked at the motherboard settings and didn't see anything the would pertain to this type of thing.
Can anyone please give me some kind of advice?

I don't have the answer to your problem. However, I know for a fact that Windows XP Pro will work with the A20m. Actually XP Pro works with all of the TP's that I have had, i.e. 600E, 600X, X20, X22, A20M, T22, T30.
T43 2668-75U: 2GHz, 14.1" SXGA, 2GB RAM, 64MB ATI x300, DVD Recordable, IBM 11a/b/g Wi-Fi Wireless II, Bluetooth, Fingerprint Reader.

I didn't say XP wouldn't work on a A20m, just that IBM doesn't support it. You may be able to apply some of the WIN2k drivers, and some may work, but most probably won't. XP will probably support all hardware ie: drives, burners, modems, NIC's, etc, but problem is with the special TP functions such as volume control keys and on screen bars, etc.
