Ms office product key

#1 Post by a.wisniecki » Mon Aug 29, 2005 10:04 am

Hi,

About one month ago I bought (on ebay.com) brand new, factory sealed ThinkPad T42 (2373-6ZU). I bought this laptop with preinstalled Ms Office. On the bottom of the machine I can see license number (product key) for Ms Windows XP but I can't find label with license number for Ms Office Xp.

Do I need that label? Is my Ms Office legal?

Thanks for help. I've tried hard to find information about this on google.com and in archive of forum.thinkpads.com.

Sorry for my bad English :-(

I just looked up the product specs for a 2373-6ZU and it doesn't say it comes with Office. If IBM did not ship it with Office, that might explain why there is no COA label affixed to the machine for Office. Have you asked the vendor? ... JD Hurst

As I said laptop was sailed and looks untouched. For me it was installed by manufacturer but I'm not 100% sure.

In auction description was information that price includes ms office. I will be angry if this software won't be legal. I will ask seller about this situation.

If the seller doesn't replay who I should call? Microsoft? Lanevo/IBM?

Thanks for fast answer :-)

if it was factory installed you should have a booklet in your thinkpad box. check the documentation he provided or came with laptop.

MS Office is optional component, that can be added it's not standard. also there is no COA attached for office on laptop.

if IBM Installed it then it will be in IBM recovery partition. check for it. call IBM and ask them if this perticular laptop was shipped with factory insatlled Office. they can tell you with serial number.

well licensing is complex than we usually think. just think I had another laptop that come with Windows Installed, and that laptop got stolen, I called MS to ask if I cna use that license on other machine as that laptop is stolen. they said "NO" coz it was preinstalled and can't be used on other machine.

but I can get a free Windows XP and Office from my School's store and use it and that's legal. even though I don't get COA, coz school has bulk license.

you can contact MS, and notofy them of software piracy. but the point it what you will get, you can't use that software coz now you know that you are using pirated software.
