What is the best way to reduce interferance from other WIFI

#1 Post by nikemen » Fri Sep 02, 2005 2:58 pm

NETWORKS.?

I have a neighbor, who is operating a WIFI network, we BOTH use encryption and he is on channel 6, I on channel 11. But, I know that AConncetions is getting interferance from it. Is there any way to reduce it?

If you know the neighbor, ask him to move to channel 1 and stay on channel 11.

If you have WPA on your profile, and set Access Connections to look only for it, there should be no interference on your machine. There is none on my and there are two or three other local signals (unsecured) on the same channel (6). This is, at least, how it works for me. ... JD Hurst

You probably won't be able to ask him to move because channel 6 reserve for Super-G and most likely he is using it. FWIW, Super-G on static mode won't effect the OP connection since it won't be compatible with the OP own setup. On the other hand, the OP could install the Omidirection antenna which will help a lot.

uh, G is not the same as Super-G. Super-G can only use channel 6, and only channel 6.

I lived in a high-density area in a big building, and I think there were well over dozen networks showing up. Using WPA and MAC filtering, I never once had a problem with interference on any channel.

(Oddly, at one time, I had two wireless notebooks running, while talking on my cordless phone and running the microwave, and then I answered the cell phone on top of all that. No problems occurred.)

I am using wpa and MAC address filtering, still getting problems. Only with WPA turned on actually.

I don't know what you mean by interference, but it seems to me very highly unlikely that you and your neighbours used the same WPA key, so I don't know how the signals could interefere. In Access Connections, make sure only your access point is checked off for searching for a connection. ... JD Hurst

where is the checkbox? I pull up search for networks, and then indeed there is a profile for this network using WPA, but the signal goes in and out. When I check, check for network that is the point that I see the neighbor signal much higher than mine.

Look under the Location Switching menu item in Access Connections.
