Windows Update bombs

#1 Post by pipspeak » Mon Sep 12, 2005 12:56 pm

I'm windering if anyone else has had problems installing Windows Update components for SP2.

Before installing any major software on my T43, I went to the Windows site to check what updates were available and was told I had to install some new components for Windows Update to work correctly, including Installer 3.1 and the infamous Genuine Advantage Validation Tool.

Problem is, the download and installation of these components fails every time I try. So basically I cannot not now use the Windows Update feature at all, which sucks. Anyone know where to start looking for a fix?

Validation tool requires "Active X" to be installed in your system. Did you allow it to be install? If you didn't click on the information bar and let it goes through, it won't work.

That Active X application was installed first and it installed fine. At least that's what the computer said. Perhaps there was a problem with the installation that was not detected.

I also sent an troubleshoot email to MS.

When I first got my DSL modem (connection) and a router to go with it, I could not get Windows Update to work. All other web browsing seemed OK.

I eventually discovered I did not have the router and modem set up properly. In my case Dial-Up still worked with Windows Update, only DSL did not.

Same thing happen to me with my new t43 . I went to download those two updates and everything was fine except my wireless was not working. So I did a windows system restore and since it was a new computer I hadn't taken windows updates on. Woke up next morning turned on my computer for the second time brushed my teeth. system updated again. Didn’t figure that until 12 hours later when it asked me to then install the next updates and saw in my history the others were downloaded.

Since yours won't download maybe you should do restore it back to factory settings and try again
