Windows pauses for 20 seconds while starting?

#1 Post by Michael1980 » Sun Sep 25, 2005 3:44 pm

I just noticed after updating my Thinkpad T42 software that Windows pauses for about 20 seconds while starting. Ie it just sits there doing nothing with just the background (the taskbar has not loaded up yet).

Anybody know the cause?

Can't say for sure, but the 802.1 wireless adapter is frequently the culprit. It is trying to find an access point. Try setting it so that your wireless radio is not turned on at boot-up.

The wifi was off (the light is not on anyway).
I think the culprit here might be Microsoft AntiSpyware, will check it out.

Go to Start > Control Panel > Network Connections. Right click on the wireless network connection and choose disable. Now reboot. If the delay is gone, then try the following. Following the method above, now enable your wireless network connection. Next go to Start > Control Panel > Administrative Tools > Services. Look for Wireless Zero Configuration near the bottom of the list. Make sure that is is set to start Automatically and that it is Started. You can double-click on the service to make changes. Now reboot again and see if the delay is still there.
