Windows XP Home SP2 vs. A22p

#1 Post by robert_l_ross » Tue Sep 27, 2005 12:25 am

Hopefully someone can give me some guidance...

I've been trying for 3 days now to install Windows XP Home SP2 onto my new (used) A22p.

I've updated the bios and the hard drive (40gb). Partitioning went fine, format was fine, file copy from CD to HDD was fine.

When XP setup re-boots into grapic mode for the remaining 39 minutes of install, my system stops ... but not really. You can hear the hard drive spinning, the CD rom searching, the screen flashes all of the features of XP while the little green progress dots move around, but it never goes beyond 39 minutes remaining. My local Geek Squad guys can't figure it out yet either (they've had it for 2 days now).

Anyone have any ideas? When I purchased the system it had XP Pro installed, so I don't think it's a mobo or memory problem.

THX for any help you can offer.

Update

OK, so this is a weird one.

I tried to install using Windows XP Home SP2 upgrade, but for some reason that integrated disk will not install. After quite a few calls to Microsoft, I was told my old Windows XP Home (no SP integrated) would work with my new XP SP2 cd-key and whaddaya know, it worked.

Bummer that I had to download all of the service packs again, but with broadband and 802.11b wireless, it only took about 2 hours total time from install finish to last pack installed.

Anyway, thought I'd give an update to all who might run into this problem.

Later! (happily typing away on my A22p w/XP SP2)
