Freaky occurance - put system into standby, turned back on

#1 Post by K. Eng » Tue Sep 27, 2005 8:28 pm

So at the end of the day I put my T40 into standby mode (with the moon symbol LED lit) and went home. When I got home, I took my T40 out and it was hot! The system had somehow gotten out of standby and was running! :(

Centrino hardware control reported that the CPU was at 50C, and the fan was running full tilt.

I backed up all my data and ran diagnostics. Thankfully nothing appears to be wrong, but I was worried that walking around with the HDD spinning could have damaged the drive.

Any idea on what in the heck could have caused this???

One possibility, although not so likely. Scheduled Tasks can bring a system out of standby (even on batteries) if that option is checked in the task.

I have also seen where the system goes into standay just fine but when it tries to then go into hirberante that it locks up and runs full blast until the battery runs out.

This has happened to me too. I've put the system into standby before I go to sleep, only to be woken up at night by the hdd/fan spinning up.

BIOS takes care of this, just disable the "Scheduled tasks may bring the computer out of stand by" and you should be fine.
