Problem connecting to Server without repairing IP address

#1 Post by Sand » Mon Oct 17, 2005 7:48 pm

Hello,

I've been having a problem for months now whenever I to to O.E. and try to retrieve my mail, I get a box telling me that it cannot connect to the server, which is Charter. I have talked with them several times, and after much time spent going through all the steps they can think of, they cannot find what the trouble is, and told me to call IBM, as it must be their wireless problem, since I am able at times to connect to the internet. IBM went through many of same procedures, and ended saying they do not know what it is, and to keep calling until I get a rep that may be more knowledgeable to help me.
What happens is that I have to keep repairing the IP address before I can connect to email, and sometimes the internet. It's getting so that sometimes that will not even work anymore.
Is anyone familar with this particular happening on their T42 and/or what is causing this? I have tried to look in the IBM sites but cannot find anything comparable.
I would appreciate any thoughts or suggestions on what to do next..
Sand

I have the 2379 DXU, T42.

It might be a good idea to look toward your wireless access point, router, etc. Find out the brand and model number, go to the manufacturers web site and search for problems similar in description to yours. There are many different brands of wireless connectivity products and some of them are very problematic to downright useless. Is your antenna close by? I lose connection every once in a while due to weather, I am getting my signal from my neighbor which comes and goes but it is free so I deal with it.

Problem connecting to Server without repairing IP address

Kyocera,

I have the Linksys router so following your suggestion, I went to the site and upgraded the Firmware. Tomorrow startup will be a fair trial to see if it made a difference. Even if it doesn't help the problem, I'm sure it needed the upgrade anyway; but I have a feeling it may have worked. I will report back when I know one way or another.

Thanks for pointing me in a direction. I think that it may very well be something to do with the router.

Problem connecting to Server without repairing IP address

Kyocera,

Well, this morning I went to email, and had no problem at all connectiing nor retrieving my mail. I was afraid to jump to conclusions, because there has been a day or so here and there in the past where it worked okay, but it's been half the day, and still having no problem connecting :) Since it's just after upgrading the router, I just have a feeling that was it. I'm so relieved and want to tell you thanks very much for your help.
