#1 Post by kitjocky » Sat Oct 29, 2005 1:59 am

Hi,

first apologize my not perfet english.

I'm using an T43p, XP Prof with SP2 and all updates installed. Firewall is activated and as virus-software I'm using AVG.

There is an problem with pictures (jpgs). After some actions (viewing, delete) in most cases the desktop freeze. And when I shut down the machine, an message with "explorer error" appears.

If anyone has any ideas about this problem, please help!

Thanks.
K.

Take a look in event viewer and you should see some red X's coordinate these with the times of the problem. Click on the event and open it to see if there is any stop error codes, google those, or go to microsoft.com and search for that stop error. Hope that helps.

Thanks for the tip. But it dosn't really work. Few Minutes ago, I has the same mistake. I viewed 5 pictures, deleted one and the error comes up.

After restart I has a look in the event viewer. No red warnings, some yellow with "COM+.. " statements, but nothing that pointed to explorer.exe or somoething else.

???

Maybe running system file checker might find a problem, start, RUN >sfc /scannow

I did it - nothing. I also run ad-aware - no results.

Maybe my description about the fault is wrong. Explorer seems to hang or work on something for hours. Taskbar and no programs can be started. Windows switching is very slow or with no effects.

And during a reboot or shutdown there comes the window that explorer has to be closed.

Everything looks ok; many green points and some unknown applications - most from thinkpad.

Only one thing looks a little bit strange to me. shell32.dll is an "unknown" extension as result from this test. I also did a complete scan with AVG now, and shell32.dll is marked as "changed". ???

Thanks a lot for your help.

Forgot my last message; I had a look in the AVG-forum and it seems to be ok, that AVG display the "change" message.
