ACPI Support on 240x with Win2k

#1 Post by Fleximaster » Tue Jul 06, 2004 10:12 pm

PLEASE HELP!!!

I have a 240x which is running Win2k, but I need to disable ACPI support otherwise I will get problems when I try to get all the latest updates from Microsoft.

Is there anyway of doing it if installing from the IBM Preload CD's? I know I need to press F7 at a certain point, but unfortunately I don't get the option to do so as the usual Microsoft setup sequence is not used.

Please help.... Getting desperate!

Pete

ACPI and 240x

It's a pity that I didn't see your post until today as I've just been stung with this. I loaded W2k pro, went to windows update, got SP4, got ie 6 and then finally the last suff which finally did it in for me.

i get the ACPI error when windows 2000 loads up and it hangs. The only way I have found to get past it is to load the W2K recovery module which loads windows and the starts a command line window. Unfortunately when you close the window there is no menu bar/start button and the only thing that I can do seems to be to reboot.

I'm resigning myself to reinstalling the whole thing and pressing f7 at the very start of the install to disable ACPI

However, if someone does find a way round please let us know!

Hi
as a post script I wiped the hardrive and started from scratch. I pressed f7 when the install asked me to press f6 if I had any other drivers I wanted to install (scsi etc). As mentioned on the web no feed back that anything has happened. So far everything is ok. (No dreaded blue screen compalining about the acpi bios). I loaded the last W2K updates from MS last night (upgrading from W2K pre SP1 to SP4 plus all security updates and most fo the other stuff. I havn't check the final one yet so I hope its not the last straw....

I finally got to disable it post installation. I found a website that gave simple step by step instructions... Here they are:

1. Open the Device Manager (Control Panel -> System -> Hardware Tab -> Device Manager button)

2. Expand the Computer tree.

3. Right-click the "Advanced Configuration and Power Interface (ACPI) PC node and select Properties.

4. Go to the Driver tab and click the Update Driver... button.

5. When the Upgrade Device Driver Wizard appears...click Next.

6. Select "Display a list of known drivers, etc." and click Next.

7. Select "Show all hardware of this device class" and from "(Standard computers) select "Standard PC".

8. Install the driver by clicking Next.

9. After the driver is installed, press Reboot.

10. When Windows2000 restarts, it will re-detect all of your hardware and installs device drivers for them again. This will take a few minutes.

11. After Windows finishes re-installing the device drivers, open the Device Manager once again and expand the Computer tree as well. If you have two "Standard PC" devices present, check the Properties of both...and remove the one which displays "driver not installed" in the Device Status screen.

12. Once this is complete, ACPI is disabled in Windows2000

Is this problem with ACPI & Win2k SP4 specific to the 240x model only?

Or does it affect the older 240 as well??

It's just I finished installing W2k on my 240 last night & I was going to polish it off by installing the SP's etc tonite.

Any suggestions?

Cheers!
