Sugg wanted for 600e reformat, etc

#1 Post by TP4me » Sat Nov 19, 2005 3:04 pm

I'm VERY glad to have found this TP community! We have two donated by a US corp to our small non-profit org in SE Europe, and an A30 in the house. I'll appreciate your thoughts, esp but not limited to 98se vs W2000.

Two nearly identical 600e units, 2645-55u, working but with increasing hangs and glitches need to be scrubbed and reloaded.

PII 300Mhz, one with 288MB ram, the other 256; 6Gig HD; cd/dvd-rom; ext floppy; IR port and one USB 1.0

No COAs on the units but I was given a DVD with Ghost image of one, with W98 OEM-- NOT se. Lots of pirated stuff here but I have one ea of the following legit: 98upgrade to se, 98 full install, 2000pro full. Also two legit copies of Office97, which is what I expect to run.

(I WON'T be runnning Outlook, and highly recommend a mail client called TheBat! avail at www.ritlabs.com)

Thanks for your comments, as I plan to dive in within the next 2-4 days of my post. Though you might convince me to wait 3 weeks for larger drives from the States-- costs here are 3x higher, so I'm inclined just to get going with what I have.

I am decreasingly computer savvy, but appreciate advice and can follow directions.

Use a Win98 boot disc, fdisk and delete partions on the drive you're going to use, then make new partition with fdisk, then use whichever OS you want, format with FAT32 if Win98, or NTFS if W2K. This is a fail safe way on 600E's to use full capacity of your drives and insure good installation. Good luck.

Thanks for the info-- straightforward and should be no problem. I did forget to ask for recommendations on which TP utilities to reinstall & where to get them...

If you use WIn 2000, then you can use the software installer, and it will download and install everything necessary to update your 600E. Very nice feature!!
