WIN2K "Update Rollup 1"... a good idea?

#1 Post by leoblob » Sat Nov 19, 2005 7:15 pm

Microsoft has incorporated pretty much all of its security fixes/patches for WIN2K into something they call "Update Rollup 1"... http://support.microsoft.com/kb/900345/

I am hesitant to load and install something that will make so many changes to my OS, unless it's a really, really good idea. I'm not having any issues/problems (at least that I'm aware of), running WIN2k SP4. Does anyone have any thoughts on this Update Rollup?

Thanks!

In theory it's just a quicker way of installing a large number of patches that you would otherwise have to put on individually. Assuming your machine is already up to date with security patches, there's no need to install update roll-up 1. When setting up a new Win2k machine, it can be a big time-saver though. I've installed it on a number of machines and not had any problems with it. A few people obviously did though, as MS had to release a version 2 of it to address some compatibility issues.

If you regularely installed all upcoming patches there will not be anithing new in the package fof you.
The Update Rollup is - like a Service Pack - designed for people which reinstall and dont want to install a whole lot of patches.

I haven't installed ANY security patches, so this sounds like a good idea.
