Antivirus and Internet Security
Hi,
I have a TP41p. I upgraded from Norton Internet Security 2005 to Norton Internet Security 2006 but my computer has become really slow. Any other security suite software available without being a resource hug?
Thanks
Sepehr

Free, google for AVG anti-virus, the unregistered version covers the basics. Not fancy, but will watch your system and scan e-mail.
I removed Norton immediately after setup, it is indeed a resource hog. I currently run the McAfee Wireless Home Security bundle, the Wireless Home Network Security app is trash, don't even load it, but you get a 3-user copy of VirusScan (which is not bad), and Personal Firewall Plus, which I've been very impressed with. Both keep my TP very safe, and Firewall Plus informs of questionable activity in and out, far better than the Windows clunker. $49 most places, and Costco (where I bought mine) is offering a $20 mail-in rebate.

I have a copy (site license through work) but haven't installed because I have yet to install SP2, which is apparently required. I have used the 2005 version for, well, most of 2005.akhavan wrote:Has anybody used PC-cillin Internet Security 2006 . Any comment?
2005 was pretty stable, regular updates/definitions, reasonable interface (although 06 is different). Unless I'm on the road, I tend to leave the firewall off as my home network consists of one machine (me) which is protected by a hardware firewall and at the office we've got a hardware firewall (several, actually) in place. May not be the wisest of moves by me as it doesn't alert to outbound problems, but I regularly scan with several apps for that kind of stuff.

How do I remove the Symantec Security Suite?
I want to get rid of the Symantec Security Suite which came bundled with the ThinkPad T43 built-into the Hard Disk Drive, and instead install Windows Firewall, Windows Anti-SPAM and any free AV program like AVG or AVAST.
Tried my level best in deleting all related folders and files in Safe Mode, including tinkering in Regedit to remove all entries of Norton Anti-Virus and Symantec-related keys, but still cannot uninstall the Norton Firewall. Even after this the system doesn't allow installation of any other AV s/w.
Please HELP!
Thanks.

Re: How do I remove the Symantec Security Suite?
From your description, it sounds like your uninstall efforts may've gone awry. You might try installing the whole thing, rebooting, then searching the online help or Symantec's site for correct uninstallation procedures. Actually, the unwillingness of other apps to install when it appears Symantec's suite is still installed is a nice courtesy.raynbow829 wrote:I want to get rid of the Symantec Security Suite which came bundled with the ThinkPad T43 built-into the Hard Disk Drive, and instead install Windows Firewall, Windows Anti-SPAM and any free AV program like AVG or AVAST.

Uninstalling Symantec Internet Sevurity and Norton AV
Dear GomJabbar,
Thanks a million for the tip! Had Symantec/Norton AV given even a remote inkling on availability of this uninstall procedure in their installed program, it would have saved me two working days and tons of anxiety!!
Regards.
