When I add a "favorite" site to my list, the site's icon does appear. But after the next boot (like the next day), the icon has been changed to the stupid Microsoft "e" (I'm running IE6)... so now ALL my "favorites" have the "e" icon. How can I fix this?

Do you have IE configured to clear the cache on exit? Do you have Tweak UI clearing cache and history on log out?

I do have IE set to clear caches... I also manually clean out cookies, temp files and history files before I close the program for the day... but I am unfamiliar with Tweak UI...

Tweak UI is part of Windows Power Toys that can be downloaded for free from Microsoft. Microsoft offers these Windows enhancements and tools, but does not offer technical support for them. If you don't know what it is, it is quite unlikely that you have it on your computer.

Try this. It fetches the icons for every link in the favorites folder. It also stores those icons in the favorites folder by creating a new subfolder and changing the attribute to 'hidden'. That way the folder for those icons doesn't show up in the favorites menu (even if you set "show hidden files/folders" in your settings).

Someone showed it to me a few weeks ago, and I've been running it weekly ever since. I run Norton Utilities to help me cleanup things, and I run FavIconizer after the cleanup.

Here's yet another solution... Use Mozilla Firefox instead :)

I had a very much related problem. I would play CD's in my ThinkPad with Windows Media Player. While I am online, I could get the cover art for the CD, which is nice to see when you put a CD in the drive. But every time I would delete the "Temporary" Internet files, I would lose all the cover art. I might have to try o1sowise's solution for this.
