what is this program?? windows hates shutting down

#1 Post by Blake » Wed Dec 07, 2005 6:05 pm

well after my fresh install, nothing but issues.

i try to shut down and it doesnt work 99% of the time

issue:

when im shutting down i get an end program error, the popup screen with the "end now" and it says

end program - sample

sample should be the program name usually .exe

WHAT IS SAMPLE???????????? :?: :x

I did a search on my hard drive for Sample, and came up with a number of files. Some were related to Quicktime, and some to WinZip. WinZip has a file called sample.exe. You're probably not going to get much help looking at these files.

Take a look in Event Viewer. Go to Start > Control Panel > Administrative Tools > Event Viewer. Look for any events that occur at the time you are trying to shutdown for clues.

You can also look in the file userenv.log (open in Notepad). This file is located in the: C:\WINDOWS\Debug\UserMode\ directory.

end program - sample does seem like an unusual error message.

Just a thought, try disabling the WinZip quickpick if you have it in the Taskbar; then see if that helps. :)

I get the same message for MSN Messenger and Adobe Acrobat (if I've opened a .pdf file) even though I've already exited them.

Look for any error messages that occur at the time that you are trying to shutdown. If you have any, click on the embedded link while online for more information.
