I believe it is part of Windows or else the Intel chipset drivers.

My IR port in my T42 uses (2) drivers. nscirda.sys and irenum.sys. These drivers are located in C:\WINDOWS\system32\drivers\.

The following .inf files refer to the (2) driver files above. layout.inf, netirsir.inf, drvindex.inf, irnsc.inf, viafir2k.inf. These .inf files are located in C:\WINDOWS\inf\.

Your R52 may be different, but see if you have the following drivers and .inf files. If so, try pointing the hardware wizard to the C:\WINDOWS\inf\ directory for the installation files.

Windows should ship with these drivers; IR hasn't changed much in a long while. Did you try installing this: http://www-307.ibm.com/pc/support/site. ... MIGR-58627

Also, my R32 had an option to disable the IR port in the BIOS. Check your owner's manual on how to enter the BIOS in your computer and make sure IR is enabled.

Go to Start > Control Panel > Folder Options > View. Choose radio button: Show hidden files and folders, then uncheck box: Hide extensions for known file types, and finally uncheck box: Hide protected operating system files (Recommended).

Now you should be able to 'see' the above files and folders.

You need the .inf file to install the drivers.

Go to Device Manager (Start > Control Panel > System > Hardware > Device Manager). Right-click on each of the problem devices and uninstall them. Next reboot. See if Windows finds the appropriate drivers by itself first.

If Windows doesn't find the appropriate drivers, right-click on each of the problem devices and uninstall them. Next reboot. When the Found new hardware wizard appears, try directing it to the C:\WINDOWS\inf directory. Alternatively, you could try copying the .inf and .sys files to a CD and point the hardware wizard to the CD.

You say three unknown devices show up. Do you have any idea what the other 2 are?
