USB dropped every few minutes... !!?

#1 Post by beeblebrox » Thu Dec 15, 2005 7:23 am

Folks, I have a severe problem.
My T23 (newly installed) drops the USB devices (Which are on a USB 2.0 PC-Card) every few minutes.
Then it takes 3 seconds, it rings, and the devices are recognized again.

I identified the problem as a Windows problem, because on my other thinkpad with the card and the same devices attached, I don't have that problem.

I checked the USB drivers and the power management but there are no differences between the two thinkpads.

Does anyone know a solution? Losing the mouse for a few seconds every once in a while drives me nuts.

Since you are using a CardBus USB 2.0 Card have you checked your device settings in the OS or in the BIOS? Have you checked or re-installed the device drivers for the slot? Have you tried BOTH slots? Any difference?

My guess is that some other device is sharing the IRQ or COM Port with your card. You could try and track down which device this is, perhaps in Event Viewer, by checking the time you are dropped with a corresponding event. You could also look in scheduled tasks to see if you have a scheduled task set to run every few minutes.

Another option that may work would be to change the IRQ and possibly COM port that your card is using by going into Device Manager.

Devices that I would suspect would be modems, IR ports, printers, other USB devices and other PC card devices. Look in Device Manager for anything that uses the same IRQ or COM port as your card.
