please help

#1 Post by BearVsShark1013 » Sun Dec 18, 2005 11:35 pm

I remember disabling hibernation mode, but i don't remember doing anything with stand-by/sleep mode and it seems to be disabled. how do i re-enable it? and, i wish to re-enable hibernation mode as well, so i go into Battery MaxiMiser and click enable hibernation and create hibernation file, it then says file created, but then it doesn't turn out to work. Please help, thank you.

Check the Power Options control panel. On the Hibernation tab, is it enabled?

Check your c:\ drive: do you have a hidden HIBERFIL.SYS file? (Use the command line command "attrib c:\hiberfil.sys," it won't show up with DIR.)

In my Power Options control panel, under Suspend/Hibernate Options, all it has available is "Suspend/hibernate options for undocking: 1.) Hot Undocking 2.) Suspend when undocking 3.) Hibernate when undocking"

And i looked for the hiberfil.sys and did not find it, so it must not have been created. Reinstall MaxiMiser driver?

Curious. You sure you don't see a check box for "enable hibernation" on that tab? Search around in Power Options again. It ought to be there in 2000/XP.

There is a separate tab in the power control options called "Hibernate" ( not "Suspend/Hibernate Options", just "Hibernate" ). Pick this and check of the enable hibernation check box. The alternative method if you have the easy mode control panel set up is described here.

Finally, when all else fails, use a sledge hammer to do it the hard way.

ya, that's what should be there but it's not, and i don't know why, and i can't create the hibernation file through battery maximiser either.

@BearVsShark1013

Which version of Windows are you running? And which model of ThinkPad do you have (ie: T42, X31, 600E, etc.)?

Thanks, I was thinking Windows 2000. It's on that tab in XP. My mistake.

There is are some Hibernation settings in the BIOS. You might try turning it on there first.

Another thing to check, do you have ThinkPad Configuration installed? Also the IBM Power Management driver and Power Management and Battery Maximizer Wizard (2 different software downloads)?
