600E boots into safe mode

#1 Post by yidaho » Fri Dec 23, 2005 3:21 pm

Hi,

I've got a 600E that boots into safe mode continually. I have tried using system restore to restore back to an OK configuration to no success.
I'm considering re-installing Windows ME but can't get the cd drive to work in safe mode. I guess the drivers are not installed.

Any tips on how to get out of this mess.

regards,

Paul

Have you tried checking your Device Manager to see if anything is marked as having a problem? It could be that there is a problem with something recently installed that is causing the system to reboot into safe mode.

There is multiple entries for some of the hardware, though they are different types???
e.g. six different drives are supposedly present, different monitors present, different display adaptors.

What's going on?

start -> run -> msconfig

Did someone select that you should boot into safe mode every time?

Make sure the BIOS is set up to boot up from the CD before the hard drive. Then put the Windows ME CD in, and boot up from the CD. You might need to have the computer powered off first rather than just doing a warm reboot. So start with the computer turned off, then turn the computer on with the CD already in the drive to boot up off the CD and start the install.

To get into the BIOS, turn the computer on, then press the F1 key about once per second until you see the BIOS menu.
