I had observed this on and off with Firefox at work ... I usually just logged in with IE. I found that if I "logged in" with "remember me on this computer," using Firefox 1.06 or 1.6, and got back to the index with "log in" annunciated, I closed Firefox, and then reopened. Miraculously, I was logged in. Go figure.
Anyway, hasn't happened to me in a while, probably because ... I stay logged in via cookies.
