How can I update 600X drivers without a recovery disk?
Got my TP off eBay. It was quite a miracle just to get it to work- it came with no HDD, only onboard ram. After a little $hopping it worked pretty well.
But some minor hassles like the keyboard driver (listed in system devices as a ps2 standard keyboard) are bothering me now.
Most drivers, (video, modem and sound, for example) work flawslessly, even if they're outdated, Still, I wonder if the chipset and processor drivers are correct and updated. I know the BIOS is not... Thinkpad configuration says 11/30/99 ITET55WW
Also, I do not have a floppy drive. Do I need one to update BIOS? Can't I do this from a CD-R/pen drive instead?

I believe that there are some recent threads about being able to update the BIOS with the Cd-drive instead of a floppy. So, yes you can update the BIOS, assuming that it isn't already up to date.
As for installing XP SP2, a recovery disk will not really help with that. The recovery disks for a 600X were for Win98, I believe. (Maybe Win2000) Anyway, XP will contain all of the drivers that you will need for the 600X (atleast it does for the 600E). Then you can update some of the drivers using the Software Installer available from IBM.
Note: The latest BIOS is required for XP.
