Certtool.exe seems hung
Certtool.exe seems hung
I have a user who has a brand new T43. Over the last week or so, he has noticed the computer is running much slower than it should. I did all the normal virus/spyware scans (in safe mode) and it came up clean.
Looking at the taskmanager, I noticed that certtool.exe was taking 99% of the cpu utilization. Killing the process made an immeadiate improvement in the system's performance.
ie. the computer's problem is definately w/ certtool.exe.
My questions are:
1) what is this process and does he really need it running in the background?
2) what could be causing it to be hung and how to I get it fixed?

IBM Client Security is part of the Fingerprint reader - if you have one. It is also part of Rescue and Recovery. You can uninstall Client Security Software, but you might not be able to use a fingerprint reader. You can download and reinstall Rescue and Recovery if you need to, and choose not to install the Client Security Software during installation. Rescue and Recovery will still install one part of Client Security, but it does not have Certtool.exe. That is what I have. I do not have a fingerprint reader on my T42, and I do not know a whole lot about it.
