DUN auto-dial headaches on my T42p....any advice?

#1 Post by texasdiver » Thu Jan 26, 2006 12:10 pm

Hi folks, hoping someone can help with this.

I have a T42p. When I'm at home my normal internet connection is through a broadband wireless internet provider. The signal comes through a rooftop antenna and I distribute it around my house with a regular Wireless LAN.

When I'm out of the house or when my primary internet service is down (happens frequently) I use my Motorola e815 as a bluetooth modem to dial-out on Verizon's 1x network. This works great and gives me a rock solid 115k baud connection.

The problem is this. Whenever I am using my regular wireless internet connection the DUN dialog box keeps popping up on my screen like it is trying to dial-out using the cell phone. This happens constantly and it is not only an irritation, it seems to interfere with my wireless connection. It's like once the computer starts to look for the bluetooth dial-up connection it forgets to look for the wireless LAN connection.

I've gone through all the network connection settings and have unclicked all the auto-dial features and have made sure that that the cell phone is not the default connection. But the problem keeps happening.

I've resorted to deleting the cell phone dial-up profile when I"m not using it and then creating a new profile every time I need to use the cell phone as a modem. But this is getting tedious.

Any suggestions? Am I missing something obvious? I just want the cell phone dial-up profile to only pop up when I actually click on it to dial it manually and stay closed the rest of the time.

Maybe I misread your post but did you look in I.E. tools, options, connections and check never dial a connection?

I have totally the same problem and tried to set never to dial network connection but it doesn't work. It still tries to dial connection every time.

For a moment I thought it was due to Internet Explorer v7.0, which I have installed onto my system, but it seems it is not the case.

I've run across the same issue before. If I remember right, what I did was disable the cell phone connection adapter when I am not using it. Go to Network Connections, right-click on the cell phone wireless adapter and choose to disable it. When you need it again, do the same procedure and choose to enable it.

The problem really stems from the communication software that you are using with your cell phone. If you have different software available, that might fix the problem. Or you can even set up your connection in Windows so that you do not need to use the communication software for your cell phone. To do this you need to know the number, user name, and password to set up the connection. If you search Verizon's forums, you may find this info.

I actually don't use provided software which came with the phone. I manually set the connection because I don't use any of the features in software mentioned.

And the problem is still there. Maybe disabling will help, but in my opinion this is not really solution to the problem. I find it very annoying. :(
