Explorer Settings not saving

#1 Post by sparta.rising » Sun Jan 29, 2006 5:03 pm

For some reason, whenever I restart the system, my Explorer settings aren't saving. On the start bar, the Toolbars I have set don't save. The Windows Firewall doesn't automatically start. Any suggestions?

Sounds much like a registry error caused by some corruption, virus, trojan or combination. You might try a registry cleaner (Registry First Aid is quite good) but there is no guarantee on that score. ... JD Hurst

Definately not a virus, but I'll try the registry cleaner.

Just wondering if you have messed around with any "skin" software, I had downloaded some to play around with and up deleting it had mucho problemo with my XP settings, things missing and not being able to access others. Luckily system restore saved me that time.

I have the uxtheme.dll patched so that it will accept 3rd party visual styles. But this has never caused a problem any of the other dozen or so systems I've used it on.

The quicklaunch toolbar is showing up now but the firewall still won't turn on when windows boots. Its not turning off after I turn it on, so I don't think its a virus, just windows not remembering the setting.

You can try Microsoft's UPHClean service.
