Windows Explorer (XP-SP2)

#1 Post by krosenstein » Sun Jan 29, 2006 10:16 pm

All of a sudden the search button on the toolbar of Windows Explorer no longer works. Does anyone have a clue about what might have happened?
Thanks in advance.

You answer is here, 2nd item in the FAQ from the top.

The link/icon does not work in FireFox, you must open the page in IE to use it.

Thanks, but that's not the answer I need. My question may have been unclear. I'm not trying to restore the Search Companion that one initiates through the start menu. I'm trying to restore function of the search button on the toolbar in Windows Explorer, not Internet Explorer.

Hi Krosenstein,
Have you enabled "standard buttons" (Right click on the menu bar and make sure that option is checked)?
If you have, but the search button is missing (but some of the other buttons are still there), right click on the menu bar, select "customize" and add search from the list in the left hand window. You can also change the order of the icons or add separators if you wish. FYI on my Windows explorer the icons order from left to right is "Back, Forward, Up, <Separator>, Search, Folders, <Separator>, and Views.
You can also lock the toolbars when you’re satisfied with the layout.
Hope this helps,
Thane

The search button appears on the toolbar, but nothing happens when pressed.
