XP Home & Hibernate Mode

#1 Post by BruisedQuasar » Fri Feb 10, 2006 11:37 am

I recently re-installed Windows XP Home on a Dell. I no longer have access to Hibernate mode when I press the shift key. I do not like XP standby because I have to tip toe away from the PC afterward or it returns to full power.

Is Hibernate a utility or is there a setting you must make to have Hybernate available?

Control Panel --> Performance and Maintenance --> Power Options --> Hibernate. Make sure "Enable Hibernation" is checked.

Hibernation is a dump of the contents of RAM onto a pre-designated area of the HDD and the corresponding sleep state for the CPU and the system. Upon resume, it just loads the image back into RAM and continues on. You can do some interesting stuff in Windows and Linix with swsup2 and clever partiotioning; suspending from one, resuming into the other, vice versa, etc. HTH :)

Thank You Dsvochak! I figured there must be a way to turn Hibernate on and off. I reinstall XP a lot on novice's Dell & HP PCs but never had a reinstall fail to include Hibernate before.

Just a quick question; why are you calling it Hybernate? :)

I touch type. Sometimes I repeat a typo over and over.
