Strange Recovery Issues PLEASE HELP!

#1 Post by cjacek » Fri Feb 10, 2006 8:17 pm

Hello,

I've had the Thinkpad A21M 2628-GSU since new and it performed flawlessly, at least the hardware that is. I've only used the Recovery and Driver CD a couple of times to do a clean reinstall without any problems. It was actually a pleasure 'cause I first popped the Win98SE and then the "Software Selections" CD (with the drivers) and it installed all of these automatically. It was a no brainer. Anyway, last night, I used that same approach to do another clean reinstall and that's where the strange issues began to creep up. I was able to use the first CD (win98se) no problem but then when I popped in the 2nd CD to install the drivers etc.... it would not allow the automatic, no brainer installation to happen. There was simply no feature to enable this. Sure, I checked off the handful of utilities that d/l fine but then nothing else happened. I had to attempt to manually install (individually) each of the many drivers with constant complex instructions popping up in txt form etc... and restarts ... that I finally threw in the towel 'cause I was swamped and felt like tearing my hair out! My question is NOT about how to install the drivers etc .. but why did this most inexplicable thing occur ? The same exact thing I've done previously and yet this time it's like another CD or somethin' ...... Can anyone explain how I can get this thing to function properly and install these drivers automatically. I recall pressing something previously and I've seen like 20 or more items, in a small box, being installed automatically ... Now I can't do nothing ... It's like the feature is no longer working or somethin' ...... :( :?:

Thank you for your time,

Daniel
