Hibernate Wakeup

#1 Post by ibmuser » Mon Feb 13, 2006 1:58 pm

Any quck way to enable a scheduled hibernate wakeup time? I suspect some third party software might do this - any experiences/recommendations with such software?

Essentially, I need to set a computer to wake from hibernation and perform a backup and then either hibernate or shutdown. I don't see any function in R&R that enables this. I need to be able to backup onto a network server - but can only do so at specific times.

Check in the system BIOS, there is a "Power On Time" under the config option where you can set a date and time for wake up. I have this in my T40p so I am not sure if you will have it in your X31.

If you leave the machine in hibernate, the machine powers on from BIOS and reboots into the OS.

Quite cool it is.

You can then use the Windows scheduler to set up the backup task for a time about 10 minutes after boot (to give you time to deal with failed boot etc etc)

The new things one can learn every day are astonishing. On a T23 the setting smugiri references is found under "Config--> Power --> Resume On Time" (you may have to scroll down in the Power page to find it). Since X31's came out after T23's, I'd guess there's something similar in an X31 BIOS.

Yeah, this is a pretty cool feature.

One thing though, it will not work if you have a power on password. It just sits there waiting for it.

I use Scheduled Tasks in Windows Control Panel to wake up my ThinkPad from Standby. I use my ThinkPad as an alarm clock. I have it play an MP3 file at the designated time. I have not tried this with Hibernation, as I don't use Hibernation.

Thanks! I'll try the Bios setting option. I had no idea it might be that simple. My X31 has the setting under Config.
