Suspend and or sleep mode not functioning in Windows

#1 Post by schen » Thu Feb 16, 2006 1:24 pm

I've decided that this apparently is more of a Windows issue than ThinkPad so here goes. My wife's A30 has a fairly recent OS reload from IBM recovery partition on it. From day one, it's been acting weird in relation to the suspend/sleep functions. It simply won't go into suspend mode on it's own. Yesterday, I noticed that the suspend button on the shutdown menu is greyed out. I've reloaded the APM and ACPI utilities from IBM, but to no avail.

Anybody out there have ideas?

Since nobody else has replied, I'll ask the "dumb" question: in Power Options on the Power Scheme page, is the machine set to go into standby after some time?

Dumb Question

#4 Post by schen » Sun Feb 19, 2006 6:33 pm

Yeah, I actually got paranoid that I was asking a dumb question and double checked it. It's set to go to standby after 30 minutes. And yes, it's in a dock at the moment, but it does the same thing regardless of whether it's in a dock, port replicator or just on the A/C adapter. What has me stumped is that it has the standby greyed out on the Shutdown menu.

Found this: http://support.microsoft.com/default.as ... US;Q312826 (described at Kelly's-Korner as "A30 will not enter standby").

May or may not have anything to do with your situation.

Is it Windows 98?

Do you have that checkbox in the power options that says something like "Will not suspend even if LCD is closed"?
