Installshield apps not working

Um ... I'm sure you've thought to ask the pSPICE developers/support reps about this ... what do they say?

I seem to be having a new, similar problem with IBM power mgmt. app installers built with InstallShield 5.52.164.0. Can't understand it. But now I empathize with your issue.

Until I can find an earlier version to install, I have no more power management utility.

Unless you have deleted the C:\IBMTOOLS\ directory, you can reinstall the original power management utility that came with your ThinkPad. Mine is in the C:\IBMTOOLS\DRIVERS\BMMPM\ directory. You can also do a search for the text Battery MaxiMiser in file named IBMTPI.XML, to find the directory it is located in for you (if it is different).

That's the first place I went. The older version will not install, as well. And nothing is installing via Software Installer. I figure somethings up with InstallShield, or more likely another suite I have on my T41 is conflicting with it. ,:}

Maybe the issue is with Software Installer itself. You do not need Software Installer to install the software from the hard drive. Just double-click on the appropriate Setup.exe - the one in the directory that has the driver you wish to install. The only problem with this method is that Software Installer will not realize that you have it installed. However you can always go to Add or Remove Programs to uninstall it later - when you think that Software Installer is working properly again.

I am not clear if you used Software Installer to download the update. You can download the update manually from the driver matrix page, double-click on the download to extract the files, then use Software Installer to install the update.

well i was looking through some of the setup files in C:\IBMTOOLS and was trying to setup some programs that use installshield. seems that the setups using a versions 6.0+ work but not the 5.0 ones. what is the problem?

You just don't provide enough information. It took 29 posts before you revealed the version of PSpice you were trying to install. I don't care for all this back and forth. I'm out of here.

Time for us all to take a break, okay? I encountered problems installing the very same packages this week both with SI, and downloaded versions -- which unpack to the same locations generally than SI drops them. Yes, I know how to do it both ways, and even some you may not've seen unless you've worked at IBM. Same results. Ajsimeon may've had to converse a while to get down to the nitty gritty, but there's obligation to provide cavity search disclosure on the very first post. That's why it's called discussion.

Time for sake martinis all around and realize that not all software is created equally.

oops...didn't mean to get anyone mad here. Sorry GomJabbar. Thanks for your help though. I'm just glad somebody is having the same problem with me. David just realized that you are from Durham. I'm right around the corner here in Raleigh. Not sure if you're a Duke fan but sorry that they lost. I grew up a fan but am a wolfpack for life! Hope you aren't a tarhole!

Oh yeah if you ever find a way to fix our problem make sure you post. It's pretty frustating that these won't setup.
