Windows XP Cleartype

#1 Post by movado » Sat Mar 25, 2006 9:58 pm

I have been using a lower resolution on my T43p abd T42 for years. It was just now that I learned about Windows Cleartype on this forum.

Anyone wanting better font on a 15" LCD screen using a lower than native resolution has to try this.

Usually it's enough to turn on Cleartype in Desktop Properties, Appearance, Advanced. But the tuner can help for cases where the monitor has a non-standard color order (BGR instead of RGB), and apparently it can do some softer tweaks to adjust the look exactly to the user.

Personally, I love Cleartype and turn it on even on my CRT monitors. Some people tell me that it looks blurry and gives them headaches. Crazy drunk [censored]. ;)

Apple has been anti-aliasing for years. That's essentially what "Cleartype" is when you break it down. It's anti-aliasing with LCD displays in mind.
