Here's a radical idea. Don't run extensions with reported memory leaks.
I actually run very few, they don't add a lot to my "Internet experience." But the easiest way to plug memory leaks is to update to 1.5.0.1.
Pssst! Ibmuser, you need to fix your e-mail address in your profile. Be nice to our hosts here - give a valid e-mail address.

My personal advice is to just close things every so often. After several hours of use, just close all windows and restart firefox.
I do this for most programs I run, as just about everything has some leaks... it's hard to be leak free in large codebases.

Hey - I didn't mean to knock the Firefox extensions. Just came by the fixes for the leaks and thought I'd pass them on. I've had cases of the program taking up 200-300 MB after its open for 10-15 minutes.davidspalding wrote:Here's a radical idea. I don't understand the email bit - thought I updated my profile the other day to change the contact info - I'll look into it - thanks.

I have noticed this too and haven't been all to pleased that Firefox is subject to memory leaks with more and more extensions. That is why I eventually reinstalled it with very few extensions installed.

I met someone who looks a lot like you.
She does the things you do.
But she is an IBM.

There was a time when keeping a browser open made sense, but with the speed and memory (cache) capability of laptops, I don't bother. A browser (and Acrobat Reader, and Word, and most else) is like chopsticks - I use them when I use them, otherwise they're in a drawer. Just my curmudgeonly two cents.
