Hello all,
Yesterday I bought a IDE/USB adaptor from a swap meet. It actually works as described, but I have 2 small problems. I have a USB speed problem, (described in another thread), and the problem described here:
If I connect a HD that has been previously partitioned and formatted in FAT32 it NTFS under DOS, the drive is recognized as a Mass Storage Device. If I hook a drive that is partitioned in something else, it is not recognized at all. (I get 40g drives from old video games an am not sure of the OS)
Am I stuck having to do my disk work on my desktop before using them on my laptop, or is there a way of repartitioning them under WinXP using the USB?
Curious!!!

Re: HD partition question
You may want to familiarise your self with the "Computer Management" utility under the "Admintsrative Tools" section of the Windows XP control panel. You need to look at the "Disk Management" sub function of "Computer Management".oldgrandpainmi wrote:If I connect a HD that has been previously partitioned and formatted in FAT32 it NTFS under DOS, the drive is recognized as a Mass Storage Device. "Disk Management" should allow you to see if XP has recognised that there is a drive physically connected. If it recognises the drive is there, you may be able to partition and reformat from there.
This is a more complex topic than can be easily covered here, but if you a search on the term "XP Disk Management" (or similar) using Google you should find a wide range of material which may be helpful.
Cheers,
Bill
