Clean Xp installation !!!!

#1 Post by twilight7683 » Sun Apr 16, 2006 5:20 am

Hello everybody :D

I own a T43 2669-W7T(CTO) and it is purchased with the XP Danish version included. Therefore most of the drivers and the operation system is built in danish by the predesktop area... :(

I can not understand how a great dealer like ibm(lenovo) can have a terrible online installation or download policy. There are tons of drivers and softwares to install and later to update, which is far far away from the intelligency expected from IBM... :(

This sucks... :x

The software installer is not enough for most of the updates. It somehow just downloads the most common drivers and if you download yourself and command the Software Installer to install them, there it cant even load the display drivers...Do not trust it,

because the drivers and updates are prepared so integrated to each other, if you try to install the drivers yourself, then you should really try to try hard and fill your brain with tons of mass...Anyway with the maually installation the risk of uncompatibility is so high there and i read a lot on the forum and could find no solution for the order of installation...

About the mass issue the downloads page is even worser than my dormitory room...

Here is my question i'll really pray hard for someone to help

I need a totally english system...

I can not purchase a recovery cd because still they give it with danish xp icluded.

Is there a way to change the danish i386 folder to an english i386 on the recovery partition or cds, so it will automaticly load an english xp? or something like that or anyone who can sell me their recovery cds...

Is there anybody can come up with the order we should follow to install the packages for manual installation?

Please help...i can not find any solution for months

thanks to you all...

First of all, Microsoft will not allow conversion of a Danish version to a different language version. Because of this, IBM/Lenovo cannot sell you a different language version Product Recovery Disc set. The only exception is if you bought the Multilingual User Interface Pack of XP to begin with. AFAIK, IBM/Lenovo does not have this version available. Your best bet is to bite the bullet (or Bill Gates derriere) and buy the Windows XP Full Retail Version in the language you are interested in.

From an older link that I copied previously:
Microsoft wrote:A localized language version of a Windows–based client cannot be upgraded to a different language version of Windows XP Professional, or to the Windows XP Professional MUI Pack. For example, you cannot upgrade a Japanese localized language version of Windows 2000 Professional to either the International English language version or MUI Pack of Windows XP Professional.

Important

To replace any other language versions of Windows with the Windows XP Professional MUI Pack, you must remove the previous Windows version and perform a clean installation of the Windows XP Professional MUI Pack.
You can only upgrade to the Windows XP Professional MUI Pack from an International English language version of Windows, or from the Microsoft® Windows® 2000 Professional MultiLanguage Version. Table 3.5 shows which of these earlier versions of Windows clients can be upgraded to the Windows XP Professional MUI Pack.
Regarding the order of drivers and updates: If you are updating from a Product Recovery Disc set, I would update in chronological order of the file dates, from the oldest to the newest. The one exception that I can think of is your Wireless driver and Access Connections. To update these, uninstall Access Connections and your Wireless driver using the Software Installer uninstall feature. Reboot, then install the Wireless driver using Software Installer. Reboot, then install Access Connections using Software Installer. Reboot again.

With the Video driver, uninstall the old video driver in Windows Add or Remove Programs. Reboot, then install the new video driver. Do not use Software Installer. Instead download and follow the instructions in the readme file for the driver.

If you are starting from a clean install, I would recommend installing the Intel chipset drivers first, Windows updates next, then go with the most important basic drivers first, such as Power Management, Video driver, Wireless driver, etc. Take the time to scan over the Installation Guide in the readme files for all the software packages to see if certain drivers or software is needed before other drivers or software can work.

For the T43, use the following site to find the drivers available:
http://www-3.ibm.com/pc/support/site.ws ... MIGR-58597
Click on the T43 link below (from the above page) to get a reverse chonological order of all the drivers and software available (more than shows up in the above page).
Download individual drivers
This matrix only contains the most common downloadable files for the systems listed. All available files are accessible on the Downloads and drivers page for your system: T43, T43p.

Why don't you buy a set of recovery CD's on eBay? Currently there is one at approx 30USD. Then, if you want to clean install, you can use the i386 of IBM, after you have recovered once. So, there is no need for activation.

thanks guys for the answers

dear gomjabbar

believe i read all the instructions on read me files...and i did my own order as you said starting with the most important drivers...

It took me 2 days to read all the instructions on the read me files...

but this shouldnt be the intelligency you get after you paid more than 2000 dolars...

Anyway it is something like impossible to have a perfect stability after installing a lot, uninstalling a lot and updating a lot in the first use...maybe this sound stupid...but think of the xp, you install it later you start to use it and install and uninstall some programs for some months, what happens?........it starts to crash and you give up and you give it a format....

ibm makes you to install and install and install even in the firstday...

come on guys...let a chance for my other stupid installs

the thing IBM message is this "NEVER TOUCH OUR SYSTEM, JUST USE IT"

The only way is to find a rescue and recovery cd...

there is one thing i can advice to people, never purchase a machine with non-english xp....

learn english its easier
