Win XP HOME to Win XP PRO

#1 Post by dye » Thu May 04, 2006 11:49 am

Hi. I have Z60m installed with Windows XP home.

The thing is I already bought Win XP PRO, and I would like to install them on my new laptop.
I would use this guide.

Obviously I don't have to make a bootable windows CD, only backup of the system(xp home, drivers). Then I would erase the hidden partition, format the disk, made a clean win xp pro installation, update the drivers.

Will this work?

Yes, I have done this quite a few times. I use partition commander to do the formatting of the drive, but you can use any number of softwares for this. I'd also make a set of recovery cd's if you can from your machine in case you ever want to go back to factory install if you sell it or whatever.
