Think Looks - XP "Think Theme"

#1 Post by lophiomys » Mon Aug 02, 2004 5:04 pm

Has anyone had a more detailed look at the XP "Think Theme"?

As far as I could see, it uses a few nice icons and sounds,
but otherwise it links into the Metallic visual style of the Luna theme.
For example this leaves the horrible green "Start Button" in the TaskBar,
which is not at all IBM Thinkpad like. :x

I have searched now serveral theme sites, but couldn't find a proper Thinkpad or IBM theme.

Does anyone know of a properly designed Thinkpad related theme?

you can just use the "think theme", and just change the visual style through the appearance tab. But if you're asking for a theme without Luna theme out of the box, i haven't seen one.

you could get a hacked themes dll (uxthemes.dll) that allows you to run a non-signed theme. you can google it or PM me if you want me to send it to you

I am running the desktop version on my home-brew system. I quite like it.

It does not swap all the icons, just a few key ones. The ones it leaves behind really stand out. Blah.

The icons have bad alpha blending - they stand out.

Soudns are good. Not very IBMish though.

The active desktop is really nice.

Not to mention that it's also in the FAQ at http://forum.thinkpads.com/viewtopic.php?t=1689

13) Where did IBM hide all the screensavers and wallpapers?

The Acer Ferrari theme is nice too. If I ever find it I will post a link here (after swapping logos out).

on the subject of the IBM themes... how do you configure the mail notification feature on the active thinkpad and active thinkcenter windows themes? i can't find any documentation on how to use it? i assumed it would just piggy back off the default mail program... but it doesn't.

We couldn't figure that out either. Email IBM, then share the solution with us.

Arrgh! I've been trying all afternoon to enable the active desktop & activethinkpad theme, but it's not working. I can load up the .htm page in explorer, but it won't work on my desktop. What am I doing wrong? Using XP SP2 final.

EDIT: Methinks this problem is more serious than me - starting a new thread in order not to hijack this one ;)

my guess is you guys need to apply a patched uxtheme, like said above.

http://vortex2050.dyndns.org:8080/repos ... 180_EN.rar

download that file
reboot in safe mode
go to c:\windows\system32
rename uxtheme.dll to uxtheme.old
put the new uxtheme in
reboot to regular windows

I actually figured out that my problem was that I had hidden my recycle bin - makes no sense, eh? Anyway, turned it back on and active desktop works like a charm. Hiding it disables active desktop in SP1 as well as SP2.

I'd really be interested in mixing and matching a few elements from the theme... I'd like the calendar & disk space from the desktop theme, but the wireless signal strength, battery life & new mail notification (when it works!) from the notebook theme. If anybody figures out how to do this, let me know!
