Purchased XP Recovery CD's

#1 Post by dsigma6 » Fri May 12, 2006 9:40 am

Just grabbed this off ebay. Like usual, I buy, then think about what could go wrong with it.

Assuming the laptop I ordered has a product key on the bottom, will these CD's work? Or do you think they would be like most other recovery CD's that don't ask for any registration keys?

Thanks!

These appear to be the recovery CDs that come with the R40/R40e. This means that they shouldn't require any kind of validation from MS, or even entering the key on the bottom of your R40.

Normally, there are users here in the forum that are willing to send you copies of the Recovery Disks for which ever system you need, such as myself. However, it doesn't appear that anyone here has copies of these disks, as I have been trying to get copies myself. You might be able to recoup part of your money by offering copies of the disks for a nominal fee.

There's no doubt in my military mind that those will be burned copies of the original "pressed" CDs.

Make a copy of them as soon as they arrive just in case.

that sounds like a great idea- thanks.

i guess that means its not illegal to copy these discs if you originally bought the system or something like that?

ill let you know how they work out, and post them for sale in the marketplace.

edit: oh yea i have no doubt theyll be copies, but that makes no difference to me. the guy is selling many of them, so i would take them to be duplicates.

If you decide to "share" your XP CDs, you would be wise
to make it clear that you charge only for your time and
materials, not for the copy.

It is legal to make a copy of movie DVDs you own for
home use. A friend of mine and I share our personal
use copy. When we mail them to each other we
always insert a note 'Here is my personal use copy
of "lost" (or whatever) for you to borrow. '

We always write our names on them so it is clear
that our copy collections belong to the other guy,
the one who has the original.

I have a general question:

Do the Rescue and Recovery CDs differ inbetween the various T60s??? Or is it one Set of CDs that serves all T60 modells and includes all drivers?
