Microsoft Vista "Get Ready" site

#1 Post by wpwood3 » Thu May 18, 2006 12:13 pm

Microsoft has posted a "Vista Get Ready" website. As the site develops it is intended to answer many of the questions related to Vista.

eWeek has a good articleabout Vista system requirements in their latest issue.

Windows Vista Upgrade Advisor

#2 Post by phantasos » Thu May 18, 2006 10:45 pm

I downloaded the advisor beta tool and ran it on my x41. The results seemed a little fishy, I apparently can run pretty much every feature Vista offers including Aero. From everything I've read about Vista, I find it hard to believe that my x41 has the video capabilities to run Aero smoothly but the advisor says otherwise and recommends Vista "Ultimate" edition. Does anyone else think this is sketchy?

I think it is sketchy. I have a z60t. I'd be delighted if it ran Aero. But from everything I have read, my Intel 915GM shouldn't. Does anyone else have something conclusive on this card's compatibility with Aero?

I ran it on my T41. It says it won't run Aero (fine, and I knew that), but otherwise it says it will run everything I checked. The recommendation is pure marketing. If you want more features, it recommends Ultimate. That part can be taken with a grain of salt.

What sucks is that if you want to do X + Y, your pretty much always going to need "Ultimate" which will cost you your first born child.

Of course it is... why just drive a car when you'd be more happy with a cadillac (which you don't need)?
