y'z dock/other simliar products

#1 Post by dsigma6 » Wed May 24, 2006 7:33 am

i've been looking for something like the y'z dock, but never had much luck with it. I tried it again yesterday, and every site I get it from, it contains a global hook .dll file and tries to infect the computer. The look was awesome though, and I want to find something very simliar to it.

I checked out objectbar but it didn't seem to work.

anyone know anything that they've used sucessfully that gives the y'z dock look?

also, i've seen a lot of people with xp taskbars that were thin, and for instance, black- how do i acheive that?
THANKS!

I have Objectdock (Objectbar's from the same people at stardock.com, but it's Objectdock that will give you the OS X style dock) and I love it. It came as part of a Vista style skin package called Vista Inspirat, so I didn't install it as a standalone app. Here's a link to a shot of my desktop:

And a link to Vista Inspirat info:

It has a thinner taskbar - the only drawback is that the MaxiMiser won't show properly, but otherwise I like it. :) The installer won't completely wipe your previous style settings so if you decide to uninstall it, it will revert to your previous settings.

The Objectdock standalone is at http://www.objectdock.com

I've tried a few different dock programs and y'z dock seem to actually run the smoothest while using less resources than the others. The version I've found online didn't include a global hook .dll that I'm aware of...would I have been notified by NAV, or would I just have to be savvy enough to realize it?

i use comodo AV and anything that trys to run anything, it tells me (sometimes i wish it wouldnt!)...i did check with the developer of rocketdock, and he said the hook is no threat and does not collect any info or open you up to any problems.

i have noticed recently that comodo will tell me, after i open firefox through rocketdock, that is attempting to send the message "a¥џ" or something similar to that. but i dont see how that message would actually be carrying anything detrimental to my security.
