Office 2007 Beta 2

#1 Post by KristianJ » Mon May 29, 2006 6:24 am

While we're all talking about MS betas, anybody else trying the Office beta? Didn't see a thread about it yet.

I downloaded it yesterday - while I haven't really delved deep into any of the apps yet, the new interface will take a little bit of time to get used to. I like that documents can be published as PDFs (even though I already had PrimoPDF as a free third party app), but not sure whether it has enough to get me away from Office XP when it is finally released. Only time will tell though, and I'll have plenty of it because I have 2 pretty big uni assignments due within the next 2 weeks

Other thoughts? :)

I downloaded all software except the servers and quite like the new interface. Seems much more convenient and intuitive. The navigation is better and graphically I like it more then old interface. Have been only familiarizing with Word 2007 until now and all in all I like it. Will check other apps ASAP.

I've still got Office XP. No plans to beta test (which expires) or upgrade (which means a loan from the bank).

It doesn't expire until something like February 2007

think about using it for 1/2 year.

Plus the final version is going to have a Home edition (probably $149, installable on 3 PCs) with Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and OneNote. Definitely worth buying for home users who have more than one computer.

Ive had a good 4 days to use the Word and Excel components of the beta, and I must say that I can't wait for the official release! It didn't take me too long to find where all the old menu options were in the new interface, and the new XML-based file format certainly saves some space (however to share documents I'd most probably need to save in the 97-2003 format). I'll never have the need to use the more advanced features, but all in all there are just enough small enhancements for me to give this a thumbsup - and none of the program issues that you'd associate with a beta as yet :D

After 4 days of PowerPoint, I have to say that the handout printing simply sucks. This version doesn't know the most basic thing of automatic switching from the white on blue template to black on white paper.

The PowerPoint 97-2003 export is under par, too.

I think the new Oulookversion really rocks. Nice graphics and swift search. A welcome update I think. I will upgrade from 2003 asap. Both word an excel seems quicker to boot than the 2003, and this is still a Beta...
