refreshing desktop (f5)

on my 600e, when i press f5 to refresh the desktop it takes not quite a second- but when you hold it down it is noticeable what its doing. it used to flash every so slightly, showing that it was refreshing very quick.

anyone know what the slow down is caused by? it seems to be carrying over to things like switching between tabs in firefox, where it delays a second or two.
