IBM Update Connector Error

#1 Post by mpcook » Sat Jun 03, 2006 5:10 pm

On boot, my wife's X30 gets the following error when the desktop comes up:

"IBM Update Connector cannot start because TCP/IP is misconfigured. Click OK to exit." This appears each time I boot.

When I click OK to exit, the error window closes and everything appears to run fine. I even can run Software Installer (version 3.60.0608) and it seems fine. All of the internet-related software appears to run fine. It is running just fine via a wireless connection to my DSL modem. Have AOL broadband version running fine as well.

Any ideas? Is the Update Connector the same or different form Software Installer? Do I need both? Can I find and safely kill/remove Update Connector?

Thanks
Mike

The IBM Update Connector is, for all intensive purposes and as far as IBM/Lenovo is concerned, Dead. It has been replaced by the Software Installer; you need not worry about it. You do not need both and you can safely remove it.

I met someone who looks a lot like you.
She does the things you do.
But she is an IBM.

And it looks like Software Installer is being replaced by System Update 2. So far Software Installer is still working, and it appears to be superior to System Update 2.
