Screen Savers and multiple monitors

#1 Post by mikek » Sun Jun 04, 2006 1:41 pm

Having just learnt, courtesy of these forums, to use my 19" monitor as a second monitor with thinkpad LCD as primary, giving a useful two headed workstation - I was surprised that the screen saver only appears on the thinkpad, with the second monitor continuing to show what was on it before.

Is this normal? Is there a way of making screen savers work on both? Hugely unimportant.... I only use a screen saver to display the time (because I don't wear a watch - and I love the clock screensavers available here http://home.tiscali.nl/annejan/Screensaver.htm - been using them for two years - I believe they're 100% safe).

So just one coming up is fine - I can see the time.... but I did wonder if it possible to have the screen saver on both monitors.

Anybody know?
Regards

Boy, that Dutch railway clock is sweet ... would be nice inversed, for a Thinkpad look.

Only thing I can suggest is launching something like the Windows 95 Powertoy "Round Clock" on your second monitor. I have it mapped with a Start Menu shortcut so that CTRL + ALT + K loads it up. Let me know if you can't find it online. It's crude, but still nice looking.

Windows 95 ... Chicago ... 4.0 ... boy that was a while ago.

On my docked T43, when it goes to the XP screen screen saver the LCD screen on the T43 blanks out and the screen saver image comes up on the connected monitor.

Cheers,

Which screen is the primary one, Bill? That is, the one with the start menu? That's the only monitor that I've seen the savers active on.

I'm guessing, but a screen saver might have to be programmed to detect and utilize multiple monitors.

Just to confirm what happens - with MS Xp screensavers, secondary screen blanks to black, primary screen runs screensaver. With the third party screensaver I was using, I got clear desktop on secondary and screensaver on primary.

I'd like screensaver on both....

THAT is the solution. Hadn't looked at it in detail before. VERY feature-rich for the pri¢e. 8)

A coworker told me that when he uses the "default" xp screensaver (what he really meant was LOGON.SCR, which is the .DEFAULT user logon saver, not SCRNSAVE.SCR, the "blank screen" saver), it shows up on both his monitors. Might try that. Not a solution, though.
