Force english install?

#1 Post by xtrem » Tue Jun 06, 2006 11:23 am

Anyone know how to force english language install with Lenovo/IBM latest software?
Fingerprint 5.5 for example

I have WinXp on my laptop but I have regional settings to Swedish.
I want all lenovo software to use english when they install.

Have you tried the 'Region & Language Options' control panel? (I haven't tried it myself...)
IBM ThinkPad T43-2668-F5G,
T41p-2373-GEG & a T61-6466-9YG

There's a registry hack for this IIRC, try searching Google for "XP english install hack".

I couldn't find that that registry hack either, but i used regmon to see what parts of the registry that the application read. I found out that the fingerprint software read the key below:
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Control\Nls\Locale
To make the application English on my PC i removed the string value of "0000041d". 414 is Norwegian and i believe Swedish is 41d so if you got the regional settings set to swedish you should remove the value of "0000041d" and leave it blank. This number refer to a language group found in registry under Nls\Language Groups. After this change is done also the installation should be english.
I assume this will affect other software as well, but i want all software to be English anyway. Not sure if this will affect something that i'm not aware of since this change kind of tell windows that the Norwegian locale is not installed on my computer. Everything seems to work good so far and the software is now English. If problems it's easy to change it back anyway.

I guess this is what that registry hack will do as well, but couldn't find it so don't know.
