Create audio CD image (.iso?) from mp3s...

#1 Post by Cmdr.Keen » Thu Jun 08, 2006 3:20 am

I apologize in advance if this is the incorrect forum. I tried a general search and couldn't find any relevant threads...

I'm looking for a quick-n-dirty way to create an audio CD image from a bunch of mp3s on my T43. I'm actually not sure if the resulting file would be an .iso or not. I've tried using Nero, but the resulting file (.nrg, I believe) was consistently corrupt, even after converting the .nrg file to an .iso file.

To clarify, I'm not looking to create a data disc of mp3s, but an audio CD image that would be X times larger in filesize than a standard audio CD (which I will then mount on a virtual drive).

I'd prefer not to download a pay-for or adware/spyware-riddled program...I've already found those.

Ideas?

TIA,
Andrew

Hmmm, so you are looking to take those MP3s and turn them into consecutive CDA conformant audio tracks...Well, that is using up quite a bit of space for nothing much. What do you want to do that for, including mounting it as a virtual image?

I met someone who looks a lot like you.
She does the things you do.
But she is an IBM.

Yeah, I realize how much hd space they'll take up, but it would only be a temporary thing. I recently dug up my old $ony Minidisc player and wanted to used the included "Simple Burner" software instead of "OpenMG" (which has an annoying check-in/check-out feature). Mounting CDAs to a virtual drive would allow me to trick "Simple Burner" into allowing me a one-time dump of a bunch of mp3s onto my Minidisc.

I know it's not necessarily an elegant solution, but I want to try it nonetheless.

I know that it would waste disks, but what about creating a CD with the songs, then using that disk to create an image?

Not sure if that would work....I am just guessing here, because I am not quite sure what you are trying to do.

Yeah, I could do that, but it would negate the "ease" factor I'm trying for.

This is what I'm attempting:

1. Use a software burner to make an audio CD, but instead of writing it to a blank CD-R, write it to that hard drive by saving the "image" that the software burner creates. Since the hd would have a larger capacity than a CD-R, I could create a larger "image" than I would when normally writing a CD.

2. Mount the "image" to a virtual drive.

3. Using Simple Burner (Sony Minidisc software), I'd trick the program into thinking it was reading a CD from my CD drive, but it's actually reading the larger "image" I mounted to the virtual drive. More mp3s transferred to the Minidisc with less time and effort.

Hope that makes sense. To give you an idea, Nero is *supposed* to be able to do this...instead of an .iso it creates a .nrg file (Ahead Nero proprietary, I believe) and then I can convert the .nrg to .iso pretty quick. The problem I'm having is that every attempt with Nero results in a corrupt file.

Ideas? Advice?
