#1 Post by el chupanebrai » Sun Jun 11, 2006 3:21 am

I recently downloaded wake up news at

http://www.wakeupnews.com/

but I don't seem to get my thinkpad to awake from standby
does anyone know how to solve this?
(or an alternative program)

Wake from Standby works for me. I launch an MP3 file for my alarm clock.

When you set up a Scheduled Task with the Add Scheduled Task Wizard, browse to the program or MP3 file first, then choose schedule (probably daily), then choose time, then password, then check box to: Open advanced properties for this task when I click Finish. Now click the Settings tab and under Power Management check the appropriate boxes.

If your alarm clock program already set up a scheduled task, you should be able to open that scheduled task and make the appropriate settings as I indicated above on the Settings tab.

To get to Scheduled Tasks, go to Start > Control Panel > Scheduled Tasks.

There is a BIOS setting to allow Timer Wake with Battery Operation, but this should be used with caution.
Access IBM Help wrote:Attention: If you have set a timer to wake up the computer, and if you may carry the computer while it is turned off, do not enable this function. If the computer wakes up while you carry it, its hard disk drive may be damaged; and its battery may be drained if it is not connected to an ac power source.
One other thing. This will wake your computer from Standby but it will not wake it from Hibernation. There is no way to wake the computer from Hibernation from a software program.

I use Alarm, and it works quite well, even from standby. I haven't tried hibernation though, since I don't use hibernation.
